Concrete Canvas in the Treasure Valley
Concrete Canvas (CC) is a revolutionary, prefabricated material that allows for concrete construction without the need for plant or specialist training. It’s essentially concrete on a roll: unroll, and just add water.
CC is easy to install and typically replaces 4-6in of poured or sprayed concrete, resulting in significant materials and installation carbon savings. It also offers much better chemical resistance than conventional OPC based concretes.
Kuna is a fast-growing city
A fast-growing community comes with its own unique challenges and Kuna is no different. While the town is booming, it still maintains that “small-town Idaho” feel that many people move to Ada County for.
Residents enjoy access to quality schools, outdoor recreation and adventures, great restaurants and shopping and a truly authentic community of people. Plus, with the city’s low cost of living, it is a place that provides the conveniences of big-city life without the associated headaches.
Planning Director Jace Hellman emphasizes that the city’s objective is to strategically manage growth to avoid encroachment on urban wilderness interface areas and prevent undue pressure on emergency services and established residents. Additionally, he highlights the importance of prioritizing sidewalks and investing in custom concrete solutions to facilitate easier mobility for residents, thereby reducing reliance on cars. This proactive approach not only addresses traffic congestion but also aims to transform the morning commute from what can feel like a four-lane parking lot into a more efficient and sustainable urban experience.
Getting Started
Concrete Canvas is a revolutionary new class of construction materials called Geosynthetic Cementitious Composite Mats (GCCMs). It’s flexible, concrete-filled geosynthetic that hardens on hydration to create a thin, durable, and waterproof concrete layer. It’s essentially “concrete on a roll,” making it easier and less expensive to install erosion control installations and other projects.
It is manufactured on specialized machinery that combines the geosynthetic top layer, the fiber reinforced cementitious layer and the waterproof backing layer. CC is shipped in heavy-duty packaging and can be stored for up to 24 months without significant degradation of performance values. It’s recommended that the packaging be resealed immediately after opening to prolong this period as much as possible.
CC typically replaces 4-6in of poured or sprayed concrete, resulting in material savings of 95%. It also has a significantly lower carbon footprint, especially when transportation and installation carbon emissions are considered. It has excellent resistance to chemical attack and is more resilient than conventional OPC concrete.
Installation
Concrete Canvas, or CC, is a revolutionary new construction material. It is a flexible, concrete-filled geosynthetic that hardens on hydration to form a thin, durable, waterproof concrete layer. Essentially, it’s concrete on a roll.
CC is manufactured using bespoke machinery that combines the geosynthetic top layer, fiber reinforced cementitious layer, and waterproof backing. This allows the material to remain flexible throughout the shipping and installation process, while ensuring the cementitious content is evenly distributed.
The high level of control during manufacturing ensures that the void space is kept within carefully prescribed bounds, which subsequently limits the Water: Cement ratio achieved when installing CC in the field. It is also extremely weather resistant and can be installed in adverse conditions.
CC is highly resistant to many compounds that normally attack OPC concrete, including acids, alkalis, tanning oils and mineral salts. It is a more environmentally friendly alternative to conventional poured concrete, and can save up to 95% in materials, transportation, installation, and maintenance costs.
